Champagne Virginie T
The "Princess of Champagne" Virginie Taittinger established Champagne Virginie T in 2008 after more than 20 years working alongside her father, Claude, at Taittinger. Her mother’s family owned Piper-Heidsieck, giving her a background in two well-known houses before she set out on her own.
She now runs the house with her son, Ferdinand Pougatch-Taittinger, from Verzenay in the Montagne de Reims. Production is fewer than 90,000 bottles a year, using both their own vineyards and fruit sourced from other growers.
The range centres on Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Blended cuvées sit alongside Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs, offering different perspectives on these grapes and their origins.
Long ageing on lees is central to their approach, including for the introductory wines. It brings developed flavours and a rounded texture, balanced by freshness and generally modest dosage.
These are Champagnes full of flavour and personality, with enough substance for the table, and the depth to go the distance. Tremendous value here for an exciting small and independent Champagne house.
